Exhibition Reflection
A moment that sums up exhibition for me would be the moments I was standing out in front our our exhibition night as a dossant finally realizing that visitors would soon be arriving. I was expected to simply put into words our months of in depth project work, and into an appealing way. In my mind I was finally connecting how each little project had added up to something so meaningful. Just as I was at a peak of a balance of excitement and fear, people started to pour in. Then I, with Erina as a dossant on my side, introduced these people to our fantastic display of what we accomplished, and led them into our classroom on hard work.

My biggest contribution to this exhibition would be creatively. I was in the the creative design group of exhibition so in addition to my own art work I helped with art pieces and the design of the exhibition. With my entrance design group I cleared out the front of our exhibition space. I also helped paint the large posters displayed out in front of our classroom. When exhibition started approaching I was the one to clear out our 11th grade commons, and sweep in and around our exhibition space.

I am the most proud of my creative commissions piece that ties into my scientist interview. It was really difficult to begin because I was unable to conduct an interview without a response from any of the scientist I contacted. At a dead end I just decided to create my creative commissions art piece solo. As I was working on it I decided to try and reach out to the owners of the image that inspired my creative commission piece. We ended up communicating back and forth over email. He turned out to have a PHD in neuroscience and was the head of a research lab at Harvard. I thoroughly interviewed him, and my final product turned out better than I ever imagined when I began the assignment.

Working with my teammates and in new areas of work have been both interesting and beneficial towards my academic development. I have grown in how I work with others and handle situations. Compared to my previous exhibitions at High Tech High, I had a relatively stress free exhibition experience. I tried my best to stay out of the way of crowding around areas that didn’t need help, and I avoiding wasting time. There seemed to be multiple instances when students did work that had to be redone which ends up being a waste of everyone’s time. I found myself in the position of fixing these sorts of problems. For example I took over the painting job along with some other classmates, after the previous painters were painting in the wrong areas because of misdirections. Also, on my own I displayed all of our team’s life maps. I don’t know if they would have been finished and displayed in time if I hadn’t reminded the teacher’s about them. In that sense I learned to take initiative. Usually I assume that my facilitators know what’s for the best, but everybody forgets things once in a while. This, I feel is a valuable skill I will carry on in the future.
